AeroPress Brewing Guide for First Principle Coffee
Unleash the robust flavors of your First Principle Coffee beans with this detailed guide on how to brew using an AeroPress. Experience a smoother, less acidic cup with this popular brewing method.
What You'll Need:
- Freshly Roasted First Principle Coffee beans
- A burr grinder
- An AeroPress (including the plunger, chamber, filter cap, paper filters)
- A digital scale (optional, but recommended for precision)
- Clean, filtered water
- A kettle
- A long spoon or stirrer
- A timer
- A sturdy mug
Step 1: Measure Your Coffee and Water
For the AeroPress method, we recommend a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15. For a single serving, this equates to about 15 grams of coffee to 225 grams (225 ml) of water.
Step 2: Heat Your Water
Heat your filtered water in a kettle until it reaches a temperature of about 200°F (93°C). If your kettle doesn't have a temperature gauge, bring the water to a boil and then let it sit for a minute off the heat to achieve approximately the right temperature.
Step 3: Grind Your Coffee
Grind your First Principle Coffee beans to a texture somewhat finer than sea salt. The grind size for an AeroPress is usually finer than a French Press but coarser than an espresso grind.
Step 4: Prepare Your AeroPress
Place a paper filter in the filter cap and rinse it with hot water to eliminate any paper taste. Assemble your AeroPress by placing the filter cap on the chamber and positioning it securely on top of your sturdy mug.
Step 5: Add Your Coffee
Add the ground coffee to the AeroPress chamber. Tare your scale to ensure accurate measurements if you're using one.
Step 6: Start Your Brew
Start your timer and pour half of the heated water (around 112 grams or 112 ml) over the coffee grounds, ensuring they're fully saturated. Stir the coffee-water mixture gently for 10 seconds. This initiates the 'bloom' process, allowing gas to escape from the coffee.
Step 7: Add the Rest of the Water
Pour the rest of the water into the AeroPress chamber and let the coffee steep for 1 minute.
Step 8: Insert the Plunger and Press
After the steeping time, insert the plunger into the chamber and press down gently, applying even pressure. The plunge should take about 20-30 seconds.
Step 9: Enjoy Your Coffee
Once you hear a hissing sound, indicating the water has been fully pressed through the coffee, remove the AeroPress from your mug. Your brewed First Principle Coffee is now ready to be savored.
Experiment with the steeping time, water temperature, and grind size until you find your perfect balance. The AeroPress offers the versatility to cater to your individual taste, so don't hesitate to tweak the variables.
Welcome to a world of smooth, rich, and delightfully brewed First Principle Coffee, one cup at a time!
